Yoga Means Union

Yoga means many things to many different people and has primarily developed as a physical practice today in the west (North American and Western European).  This varies greatly from its traditional eastern roots from modern day regions such as India and Tibet.

In the west, Hatha Yoga has taken precedence over the rest of the deep and broad practices called Yoga, many of which do not incorporate postures. The essence of Yoga is so much more than physical body strength and beauty. Below are some the main examples of Yoga:

  • Bhakti Yoga: Explores life through devotion
  • Hatha Yoga: Breathing Exercises and Physical Postures
  • Jhana: Discriminative Wisdom
  • Karma: Action & Community Service
  • Raja: Concentration & Meditation
  • Tantra: Including Polarities
